Pradhan Mantri Solar Panel Yojana

The “Pradhan Mantri Solar Panel Yojana” is now officially known as the “PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana” (Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme).

Here are the key details of the scheme:

Objective: To provide free electricity to 1 crore households in India by supporting the installation of rooftop solar panels.

Launch Date: The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024.

Benefits:

Households can get up to 300 units of free electricity per month from the solar installation.

Significant subsidy is provided directly to the bank account for the installation of rooftop solar panels.

Concessional bank loans (collateral-free, low-interest) are available for the remaining cost.

Subsidy Structure (for individual households):

1-2 kW capacity: ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 subsidy.

2-3 kW capacity: ₹60,000 to ₹78,000 subsidy.

Above 3 kW capacity: ₹78,000 (maximum) subsidy.

Eligibility:

Applicant must be an Indian citizen.

Must own a house with a suitable roof for solar panel installation.

Must have a valid electricity connection.

The household should not have availed any other central subsidy for solar panels previously.

The scheme aims to reduce electricity bills for families, promote the use of renewable energy, and contribute to India’s energy self-sufficiency goals.
